The Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH), established in 1905, is located on Central Avenue near the city railway station in Nagpur and is operated by the Government of Maharashtra. It stands as one of the top ten Government Medical Colleges in Maharashtra and plays a crucial role in providing medical education and healthcare in the region. However, the current state of the facilities is inadequate, with many structures becoming non-habitable, and the increasing patient footfall far exceeding the available capacity.
The redevelopment of IGGMCH aims to create a well-planned medical campus that not only meets the growing demands but also sets new standards for healthcare and education in Nagpur. Central to the redevelopment is the development of new road networks within the campus, ensuring smooth traffic flow, better access for ambulances, and improved circulation for both patients and staff. This will greatly reduce congestion and improve emergency response times.
The facilities will include a new 500-bedded hospital with a helipad, extension of 250-bedded surgical complex, a Connecting Bridge between the 500 bed and 250 bed Hospitals, Nursing college with boys and girls hostels for 500 students, an RMO hostel, an auditorium with 600 pax capacity, a sports complex with gym, badminton and other facilities, a sports ground. These amenities are designed with a focus on future scalability and sustainability, ensuring they cater to the increasing number of students, staff, and patients.
Sustainability is at the heart of the redevelopment strategy. The project incorporates environmentally responsible practices such as energy-efficient building designs, rainwater harvesting, solar energy utilization, and efficient waste management systems. The incorporation of a comprehensive biomedical waste management facility will ensure that hazardous materials are handled and disposed of properly, reducing environmental risks.
With these advancements, IGGMCH will not only improve patient care and medical education but will also set an example of how infrastructure, sustainability, and community betterment can go hand in hand, making it one of the best medical complexes in Central India.
Beyond the architectural enhancements, the project also aims to promote the Dargah as a major pilgrimage destination, offering an experience that is both spiritually and aesthetically enriching. By providing good infrastructure, the redevelopment ensures that pilgrims are met with comfort and convenience, further elevating the Dargah’s status as a key
destination for religious tourism. This holistic approach not only preserves the sanctity of the site but also supports the Trust’s vision of generating sustainable revenue, ensuring the continued preservation and enhancement of this sacred space.
Located within 1.5km of Tadoba Forest, WelcomHeritage Tadoba Vanyavillas Resort and Spa (ITC) offers a luxurious retreat by blending rustic local traditional elements with modern elegance, the resort features a striking entrance lobby with a sloping roof and wooden post-beam structure.
