Station Master Planning and Redevelopment

Inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the redevelopment of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Itwari Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, is a landmark transformation in Central India’s railway infrastructure. This project was undertaken with a vision to modernize the station while maintaining cultural relevance and ensuring long-term scalability.

Comprehensive master planning was carried out, considering current passenger footfall, vehicular movement, and future expansion. Notably, the station records around 10,000 footfalls daily, with 12 originating trains, highlighting its importance as a key regional hub. A newly aligned entry gate and approach road with an integrated drainage system were developed to manage stormwater and avoid waterlogging. The parking area was tripled in capacity, streamlining vehicular circulation and accommodating rising commuter needs.

At the station’s entry, a tensile canopy structure has been installed, offering an airport-like arrival experience, complemented by a flag post. Aesthetic elements were introduced through the compound wall, adorned with traditional Warli paintings, reflecting the local culture.

The concourse area was expanded by demolishing the existing canteen and shifting it to the platform side. This improved pedestrian flow and connectivity. Ticket counters were modernized with new flooring and ceiling finishes, and a striking mosaic mural of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, along with thread artwork, enhances the space’s visual and emotional impact.

The station façade was reimagined using HPL sheets, CNC-cut panels, and backlit acrylic installations, creating a contemporary, futuristic look.

On the platform side, major upgrades include the addition of state-of-the-art toilets with separate facilities for ladies and gents, accessible toilets for persons with disabilities, and provisions like feeding areas and diaper changing stations. The platform elevation was also redesigned to match the station’s overall modern character.

To elevate passenger amenities, new facilities include a First-Class AC Waiting Room, redesigned interiors for VIP rooms, AC and Non-AC retiring rooms, dormitories, and Second-Class Waiting Rooms with feeding zones and upgraded toilets. Important operational areas like the Chief Commercial Inspector Room and Chief Ticket Inspector Room have also been fully modernized.
