Spread across 179 acres in the Maharshi Nagar of Pune Distrcit, Gultekdi Market Yard is one of the important bus depots of the city. The large market includes grain, jaggery, spices, fruits, vegetables among other wholesale sections. It is mainly famous for fruits, vegetables and flowers. Trucks and tempos are used for goods transport in the area. The key landmarks of the area are the Flower Trading Centre and the Vegetable and Fruit Market
The development of the vegetable and fruit market yard in Pune will focus on modernizing facilities to ensure efficient movement of goods and people. Freight lifts and conveyor belts will be installed for easy handling of produce, minimizing manual labor and reducing damage to perishable items. To facilitate smooth vertical movement, passenger lifts and staircases will be strategically placed, while unidirectional traffic flow, clear signage, and protected pedestrian areas will enhance safety and prevent congestion within the market yard.
For sustainable waste management, the market will implement composting and vermicomposting units to convert organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, reducing landfill waste and creating valuable by-products. An on-site sewage treatment plant will recycle wastewater for flushing, irrigation, and cleaning, conserving water and promoting a complete feedback cycle. Waste segregation bins will be placed throughout the market yard to encourage recycling and ensure efficient processing of waste. This approach ensures the market yard is both efficient and environmentally responsible. The Administrative building for the APMC will also be centrally located to have a vantage on all the daily activities and movement in the market yard.
